What’s new at FreeBalance?

This weekly news update provides the Government Resource Planning (GRP) community with a brief overview of recent FreeBalance developments and relevant industry news.

Have we learned anything about Technology Enabled Country Growth?

Many of us in the technology business have a visceral belief that Information and Communications Technology (ICT) can help drive country growth. [Sometimes called ICT for Development ICT4D with the major subset of M4D, Mobile for Development.] There are many outside the tech world who look at this believe as naive at best, misguided at worst. The skeptic can demand evidence and suggest that evidence provided is non-scientific, anecdotal, misleading, or doesn’t prove cause and effect. Meanwhile, the evidence and lessons learned continue to mount.

World Read Aloud Day: March 6, 2013

World Read Aloud Day is about taking action to show the world that the right to read and write belongs to all people. World Read Aloud Day motivates children, teens, and adults worldwide to celebrate the power of words, especially those words that are shared from one person to another, and creates a community of readers advocating for every child’s right to a safe education and access to books and technology. By raising our voices together on this day we show the world’s children that we support their future: that they have the right to read, to write, and to share their words to change the world.

ICGFM DC Forum Luncheon – Wednesday, March 13, 2013

The March luncheon will focus on the Change Readiness Index and assessing countries’ ability to manage change and cultivate opportunity. Unlike most indices, which focus on a country’s performance to date, the Change Readiness Index takes a forward-looking perspective by capturing the underlying factors that are likely to determine a country’s ability to respond to change and take advantage of the resulting opportunities. The guest speaker is Jacqueline Irving. Ms. Irving is responsible for overseeing research projects on issues relating to global finance and economics.
