The Republic of Kosovo has been officially removed from the World Bank’s List of Fragile and Conflict-Affected Situations (FCS) – a landmark moment that reflects the country’s growing institutional maturity, macro-financial stability, and successful public sector reforms.
This important development was publicly welcomed by the Central Bank of the Republic of Kosovo (CBK), and is reflected in the World Bank’s updated List of Fragile and Conflict-Affected Situations for FY26, where Kosovo no longer appears. The change follows sustained engagement with international partners, including the World Bank and International Monetary Fund (IMF), and is expected to bring significant benefits including increased investor confidence, improved access to private capital, and strengthened international credibility.
The removal of Kosovo from the FCS list is also closely aligned with recent economic governance improvements, including the country’s first sovereign credit rating and continued progress in public financial management (PFM). The CBK noted that Kosovo’s achievements reflect close coordination with the Ministry of Finance, Labour and Transfers, and long-term institutional efforts to build a credible and resilient economy.
FreeBalance has supported the Government of Kosovo since 1999, including the implementation and modernization of the Kosovo Financial Management Information System (KFMIS), which today supports all ministries and municipalities. The platform continues to serve as a critical digital foundation for effective financial management, accountability, and transparency.
Recent projects with the Government of Kosovo include:
- Enabling interoperability between the KFMIS and the Government’s e-Procurement system to support strategic procurement.
- Developing a new vendor invoice tracking system to streamline processing and reduce compliance risks.
- Launching a new Transparency Portal to provide citizens and businesses with easy access to public financial information.
Kosovo’s removal from the World Bank FCS list is a proud moment for the country — and for all institutions and partners that have contributed to its development journey. FreeBalance is honoured to continue supporting the Government of Kosovo as it advances towards its long-term vision of sustainable development, financial inclusion, and European integration.
